Patti Weber Jakoubek was born Patti E. Weber in Junction City, Kansas. She graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Iowa. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Michael J. Teply was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from LaSalle High School which is now LaSalle Middle School. He went on to become the first recipient of a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University.

Patti Jakoubek and Mike Teply were married on August 4, 2004, at The Wedding Chapel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Patti has chosen to keep the surname Jakoubek. Patti has a daughter, Jessica Jakoubek, and a granddaughter, Lynsie Lusk. Mike has a daughter, Amanda Teply, and a son, Jay Teply.

Mike has coached for the 8th grade football Metro Catholic Saints from 2001 to 2006 and coached in the Metro Youth Football league prior to that. He is looking forward to watching Jay play for the Northern Iowa Panthers on a full scholarship in football as an offensive lineman. He also follows Amanda in her educational pursuits at Indian Hills Community College. He currently works as a maintence planner for Unicco Service Co. at the Cedar Rapids Cargill plant. On a recent 4th of July weekend, Mike and Patti traveled to a cabin on McClain Lake in northwest Wisconsin, owned by Mike's parents. The entire family gathers on this weekend every year for watersports including fishing, canoeing and swimming, and lots of wonderful conversation around the campfire.
